Top Tip: Do your homework read the CV and plan what you are going to ask. Do not rely on your memory, write your questions down.
- Introduce yourself, create a relaxed atmosphere. You will get the most out of a candidate by putting them at ease. Always be professional though. Give the candidate clear expectations about the meeting and what will happen.
- Ask the candidate about what they know about your company and add your own additional information
- Do not to ask yes and no questions. Ask open ended questions
- Ask for examples of team work, excellent performance etc…
- Ask how they deal with certain situations.
- Ask how they manage and like to be managed.
- Explain the role, your expectations of the position and person fulfilling the vacancy.
- Check to see if there are any further questions that may have arisen and explain what will happen next with regards to your decision, next stage etc. If you give a time frame – make sure you keep to it.
Top Tip: Even if your candidate is not successful, you still need them to view your company favourably after the interview. They may be a future consumer, customer or maybe even an employee!
